Minister for Sports Mir Aijaz Hussain Jhakarani, on the directives of Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani contaced Shoaib on phone and assured him full cooperation. He told the cricketer that he need not to worry as the government was at his back.
Earlier, the government took serious notice of the inappropriate attitude meted out to Shoaib by Indian police and the Foreign Ministry sought explanation from Indian Foreign Ministry in this regard. Pakistani Foreign Ministry asked India to explain over what reasons, FIR was lodged against Shoaib, while Pakistani High Commission in India also remained in touch with him.
Minister for Population Welfare Firdous Ashiq Awan also extended support to Shoaib, saying the nation would not leave him alone in trouble.
She said that the first priority should be to arrange the marriage according to schedule. “The celebrations of the cross-border marriage would be held throughout Pakistan, especially in Sialkot,” she said.
The minister said that there was no politics involved in this marriage as it was only a matter between two families. She said warm welcome would be given to Sania Mirza as a daughter-in-law in the country. The minister said Sialkot was her constituency and she was happy to speak openly in favour of Malik.
Similarly, the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Mehdi Shah was also equally forthcoming as he extended an invitation to the couple to spend their honeymoon in his region. He said both Sania and Shoaib would be given official protocol in Gilgit if they decide to visit the region after their marriage.
“The people of Gilgit would be delighted if Shoaib and tennis player Sania could spend their honeymoon in the province,” he said in a statement.
Chairman of Senate Standing Committee on Interior Senator Talha Mehmood while condemning India’s behavior with the former captain criticised the Indian police’s attitude with Shoaib.
Pakistani cricketers are also not behind in supporting their mate. Whether it is Pakistan coach Waqar Younas, embattled fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar, Abdul Razaaq or any body else, everyone expressed his good wishes for former Pakistan captain.
As far as Shoaib’s fans are concerned they are anxiously waiting for his arrival at home along with Sania. People in all cities are organizing different programmes to celebrate their star’s marriage with Indian tennis star. Meanwhile Shoaib Malik has expressed gratitude for nation and media for supporting him. In a statement, Shoaib said he was thankful to God and Pakistani nation who extended full support during his tough times. He said God knows everything and said he would personally thank the media friends when he would be back at home. “I apologize if anyone feels hurt as far as my decision is concerned,” Shoaib added.
On the other hand, Indian police said investigations are on as the case against Shoaib Malik has not been abolished.
